Teething Policy
The Tots' Clubhouse Nursery School Teething Policy
At The Tots' Clubhouse, we aim to provide clear information about teething so that parents can navigate this phase in their child's development. Children should have all of their first teeth between age 2 and 3 years old.
The NHS provides information relating to teething:
https://www.nhs.uk/baby/babys-development/teething/baby-teething-symptoms/
The NHS states: some people think that teething causes symptoms such as diarrhoea but there's no evidence to support this.
The NHS also state that: their temperature is slightly raised but less than 38C.
If a child is displaying signs and symptoms of teething and staff are concerned that the child's temperature has reached 38C, the child's parent will be contacted as per our Childhood Illness Policy. If the temperature is accompanied with 3 loose stools, the child's parents will be contacted as per our Childhood Illness Policy. All signs and symptoms will be recorded on a Child Illness Record Form, which a parent MUST sign upon collection.
Teething Signs and Symptoms

- they have a rash on their face
- they're rubbing their ear
- they're dribbling more than usual
- they're gnawing and chewing on things a lot

Teething Medication
NHS Information regarding Teething Medication is here https://www.nhs.uk/baby/babys-development/teething/tips-for-helping-your-teething-baby/
The Tots' Clubhouse Nursery School staff are able to administer teething medication aligned to the NHS guidance and our Medicine Administration Policy.. Parents MUST sign-in and sign-out any teething medication provided each day.
If a child has been given paracetamol or Ibruprofen to manage teething pain, parents MUST inform staff. If the child requires further non-prescribed medicine whilst at our Nursery School, the child's temperature will be taken between medication. If this medication is masking a temperature of 38C, staff have the right to refuse to administer the dosage and the child's parent will be contacted..
The Tots' Clubhouse Nursery School staff will not administer medicines that are not licensed. Medicines are required to be in an original packet with administration instructions as per our Medicine Administration Policy.
